What is the Stanislavsky system? Is it a grammar for an actor or museum piece? Why does a modern actor need it? Does the system help the actor in his daily work? Do experienced actors need it? The leading actor training teachers of GITIS will answer these questions. Using practical exercises, they will tell you about Stanislavsky system and its basic goals. The modern and classic plays will be reviewed with the help of the active analysis of the play and role.

Course of study lasts for 4 years. Upon the main course completion students prepare their works for the final presentation, and those who want to continue their education can enter a 2-year Master’s programme.

Drama director course include two main stages: acting and directing. For 5 years students gradually master elements of the acting profession, take part in trainings and stage plays of Russian playwrights.

The aim of the course is to teach students to fully interpret the literary works, understand the main areas of circus art, learn to interact with actors, study acting elements and understand the tendencies of the circus tricks performance. After the 5-year course graduates become professional directors.

For 5 years highly skilled professionals teach students on two courses — Classic theatre directing and Musical drama analysis. GITIS graduates — musical theatre directors — are actively working on performances, musical shows, TV programs and movies.

Upon completion of the Musical theatre actor course every student in fact gets two types of higher education — in acting and vocal art. Therefore GITIS trains both musical theatre singers and dramatic actors.

During the Sound engineering course students gain all skills needed to provide high quality sound at performances, concerts, discos and other events. After the graduation they can work as sound engineers, producers, teachers at specialized institutes and even research associates.

During the 5-year course students learn to think creatively, to generalize and select scenic events to interpret them afterwards brightly and expressively on the stage with the help of actors.

During a 4-year course future actors are educated according to the classic Stanislavsky method. Students learn elements of the acting techniques, work on the character creation and study a number of specialized disciplines. After the course completion graduates are ready to take part in the variety performances, theatre plays and make movies.

There are two fields of study — History of Russian Theatre and History of Foreign Theatre. Course of study lasts for 4 years and after the graduation students become theatre historians, theatre critics, theatre cultural workersand editors.

During the 5-year course students learn general humanities and specialized disciplines connected to the stage art. Among GITIS teachers are famous scientists and successful producers, as well as theatrical management specialists.

Since 2017 GITIS has been educating highly skilled specialist for working at puppet theatres and theatre ensembles — people also able to become art school teachers. The course of study lasts for 5 years.

GITIS educate designers who create the world where characters live and act on stage. After the 5-year course graduates become scenographers and theatre designers.

Theatre costume designer students study general subjects (at least three History courses) as well as specialized disciplines. As a result GITIS graduates are versatile and multi-skilled specialists who can quickly find innovative solutions.

Puppet theatre designers share the same course with directors — it helps to improve the training of both professions. During their 5-year study designers learn main skills of working with the team on the joint artistic conception implementation.
